TheBoomerBabesGuide.com Back Story as told by Ali
It all started in a swimming pool and ended with cheesecake and Margarita's. How appropriate for the birth of a great idea!
After graduating college in my forties, I became the manager of a T-shirt and catalog company for cat lovers owned by a girlfriend. To learn marketing strategies for her new web site, she signed us up for a Jay Abrams marketing seminar in Los Angeles.
One morning, while swimming in the Hilton Hotel's pool, we came up with a slogan for women our age. We were pretty excited about it at the time, but as brilliant ideas often do, it suffered from a lack of follow through. But a seed had been planted.
After we returned home she invited me to a 4th of July weekend in the Smoky Mountains with an activities group for singles primarily in their 40's and 50's. Not only did I join after that fun weekend but I became partners with the owner of the singles group. As it happens, Mel was the owner's roommate and also a member of the singles club. And that's how she and I met.
Fast forward three years - Mel decided it was time to buy a home of her own, and since I'm a real estate agent, she asked for my help. We found her a cute little condo and she moved in.
Then my mother became ill, prompting me to sell my partnership in the singles group so I could devote time to care for her. Mel and I scouted for a new home for my mom and me. That's when our friendship really started to grow.
A few months later, I was about to turn fifty and, as those of you who have been there know, it makes one contemplative about their life. So on a balmy spring evening, while enjoying our mango Margarita's on The Cheesecake Factory patio, Mel and I shared a slice of chocolate cheesecake and our dreams of being able to work on our own while expressing our creative selves.
I divulged the original concept hatched at the Hilton pool along with some other ideas I had spring boarded from that. Mel liked my ideas. It seemed like such a perfect fit since both of us love to write. We also brought complimentary skills to our little venture; Mel has computer expertise and I have marketing savvy. And so the concept bloomed. Soon we had formed a plan to create TheBoomerBabesGuide.com.
We envisioned combining our interest in the Law of Attraction to how we were reinventing ourselves. At the BBG, Boomer Babes could network with other Boomers about what is important in their lives now...to share stories with one another and read expert opinions on subjects like dating, spirituality, travel, health, investments and retirement. We wanted to give a voice to women who traditionally become invisible to both men and marketers at our age.
And so we're thankful for the chain of events and friendships that have brought us together and ultimately helped launch TheBoomerBabesGuide.com. We've attracted some really fun and exciting things into our lives and we want to share them with you!
It just goes to show...everything is intentional.
